The indulgent way to explore the Cantabrian Coast and the Camino de Santiago; on the Transcantabrico GranLujo Private Train

This month it was great to escape the summer heat of Andalucia and travel north to the Cantabrian coast. I’ve always loved this part of Europe. It’s a special corner of Spain, with a Celtic culture and scenery reminiscent of Scotland.

Feve operates a number of private trains, and the undisputed ‘flagship’ is the stunning Transcantabrico GranLujo. You can choose to travel from San Sebastian to Santiago de Compostela; or the other direction. It idles through the verdent landscape of northern Spain taking a week to complete the route.

Below is my profile of the service.

Over the years I’ve really got to know the region and written a number of pieces about travel and tourism in the north of Spain.  Here is a recent piece exploring the different ways to experience the Camino de Santiago – or St. James Way.
