Information
Location:
Lanzarote is at the north east tip of the volcanic archipelago of the seven main Canary Islands, a Spanish autonomous community. It’s the fourth largest of the islands and is about 125 km west of the coast of Saharan African.
Money:
As part of Spain, Lanzarote uses the euro. There is no standard IVA (VAT) as on the Iberian Peninsula. Instead there is a general 5% sales tax.
Time Zone:
Listen to Spanish radio and you’ll be more than familiar with the ubiquitous time check phrase ‘una hora menos en Canarias’. The islands share Western European Time with Portugal and the UK.
Flights:
Lanzarote is served by direct flights from cities across the Europe and beyond. Malaga has a choice of airlines including Vueling.com who offer regular flights throughout the week.
Car Hire:
Renting a car is essential if you want to explore the island. There are a number of choices; I chose CabreraMedina.com which offers clients a gift pack of map guide and audio CD guide.
