My enchanting suite was evocatively called ‘Java’; just one of the magical guest rooms at Can Xuxu, a luxury, boutique property that provides a highly personalised experience for its privileged guests. The 19th century finca is described as ‘a boutique villa, combining the atmosphere of a private residence with the service of a luxury hotel’.
The owner and host, Alexandre a former fashion designer, has brought his French flair to the island with the creation of Can Xuxu. Here he has successfully pulled together the Ibiza laid back chic style with modern, ethnic and Mediterranean touches…
In the age of austerity, ostentatious luxury is no longer in fashion; so Ibiza is being rediscovered for its Boho Chic and barefoot elegance.
The energy is palpable, resonating through the air as the beat seems to be building to a crescendo. All around people are dancing and laughing, whilst some are consumed by the rhythm as if almost frenzied. Yet this isn’t a scene from one of Ibiza’s famous dance venues, with clubbers, arms raised, dancing to the tunes of a celebrity DJ; this is very much a different Balearic beat. This a Sunday night on Benirrás Beach, on the north of the island, where local and visiting alternative-style musicians come to jam together. This stunning, secluded cove is the regular home to the sound of drums and bongos, where people come to ‘drum down the sunset’ and party till dawn.
In high season it’s indisputably a major tourist attraction and some what overwhelming, but during the rest of the year it still captures a little of the magic of the White Island and its boho chic heritage…..
